The best way to understand the hospital is to look at the
hospitals design. One can tell a lot from a place by its décor. The Indiana University
Health Arnet Hospital is no different.
The
outside is a light color. The walls are somewhere between yellow and white. I
do not know why I keep volunteering at yellow service locations. (Look at first
post) Luckily I do not think that this location will be as depressing as
Maryhaven was. However looks may be deceiving.
As
I described in my last post, getting to this location would make the Iditarod
look like a walk in the park. To make matters worse, the buses are all on a
schedule so that I have less than a five minute window between each arrival and
departure that I need to get to. So if I miss one then the whole trip is
completely messed up. This is especially true for the last bus I need to take because
it goes on a forty minute schedule and the rest are on a thirty minute one. The
bus use to get right up to the front of the hospital. However it was deemed to
be unnecessary due to a lack of passengers. Now the nearest bus stop is a mile
and half away.
So
that first day I walked there was not the easy trip of my entire life. The overpass
was slicked by the snow and next to impossible to get over since there is no
sidewalk. SO not only is the nearest bus almost 2 miles away, there is not even
a sidewalk to make this trek less difficult.
The walk alone almost made me want to quit the whole thing and get a
different location. However I kept going and it was most likely the most miserable
walk of my life.
In
my next post I will discuss more of the hospital's interior decor of the hospital.
