After my horrible walk
through the snow, I finally made it to the hospital. As I mentioned earlier I
almost completely missed seeing it until I was almost at the front door.
The
first thing I noticed in the entrance area was how big it was. The area was
much larger than I expected. I suppose it would have been very nice if it had
been sunny when I first got there. All the windows in the area only served to
make the area darker and more gloomy then I think it was supposed to look like.
Two of the walls in the guest entrance are completely covered in windows and
with the snow this did not help the feel of the room.
The
head of volunteer services met with me soon after entering the building. I do
not know how long she had been waiting for me. As soon as I sat down, she got
to work describing what I had to do to get the volunteering there. The long
list of things I needed to do will be described in detail in my next post. To
sum it up for now, I had to do a lot to get this.
She
then tried to find a place for me to volunteer in the hospital. The only opening
that they had was at the Gift Shop. Her exact words were that, “If there is not
a volunteer at the gift shop, then it cannot open”. I questioned that statement
then but now think that it was most likely the truth.
